In the small concrete basement of an apartment building in
Midtown, Ryan Haralson is creating righteous art on a shoestring. Fueled
by a strong sense of social justice and unbounded talent, Haralson's art speaks out freshly on our time in history--a time he sees as a collision between nature, technology and the rule of the mighty dollar.
"Ryan Haralson is creating some of the most relevant and challenging work I have seen in the last five years," says Paulo Acosta Cabezas, Owner & Director of Cara and Cabezas Contemporary, "tackling difficult subjects such as consumer culture, politics, and the economy. Through his layering of historical references and pop culture icons, he manages to create a mirror for the viewer to reflect and ask, "what distinguishes our current era from what came before and what is my role in it?" From a purely aesthetic perspective, Haralson's artworks are rich with complicated patterning and beautiful line work."
In a current exhibition in San Francisco featuring Haralson's series "Cash Rules Everything Around Me (Music Round About Us)", visitors could relate to the unrelenting quest of the illustrated subjects, scurrying to get ahead, accumulate more, and keep up with the Jones. View exhibition.
Cara and Cabezas Contemporary is pleased to introduce a new Haralson print, Small Talk, this week that questions the education system. Click here to view the print on the Editions section of their website.
